The $5.5 billion project, still pending environmental reviews and other approvals, includes building 18 new stations along a former freight line between the two boroughs and converting the tracks into a mostly above-ground light-rail system.

Weird how we can build data centers quickly and without approval.

Monmouth County Commissioner Director Tom Arnone saw those cuts coming and introduced a plan to help towns improve safety features along walking and biking routes to school by applying for grants.

“The right striping, the right signage, the right ability for municipalities and school boards to get the grants they can get,” said Arnone.

Arnone says it won’t solve the funding issues but will make routes to and from school safer. The grants will cover simple safety features like enhanced crosswalks and added flashing lights.

I feel like having a safe path for children to walk to school may be a prerequisite for having them walk. They’re likely intending for parents to deliver their children to school.

Seven of the 10 construction contracts for the Gateway Program are complete or in progress. That includes the completed Tonnelle Avenue Bridge Project in North Bergen and early stages of new track layout and tunnel boring across North Jersey. The new tunnel is set to open in 2035 and the current one is set to be redone by 2038.
