Strange Correspondents

The question was whether machines could think. Lately: whether we can learn to correspond with them. A slip box was already a strange partner: patient, answering only with what you once thought worth keeping. An AI is stranger still. It answers with what everyone once thought worth keeping. Neither is human, yet the conversation happens. Perhaps adapting is not learning to talk to machines, but noticing what of ourselves comes back through them.
