Cruising Utopia is a challenging book that's saying some important things about our present, past, and future.
NOTE: It's post modern theory, which means: never use a $2 word when a $20 word is available. Its needlessly complex language made the first couple chapters a slog with a lot of pausing and look-ups to figure out WTF a word meant.
As the pages turn, I grow accustomed to the author's voice and can understand the arguments better. From the massive cultural change of the 1960s and early 1970s, there's been a chilling effect as the dominant "normal" #culture re-asserted control over our lives.
We can learn much from that period of cultural freedom and turmoil. As we confront today's fascism, let's not not settle for the status quo of the 1990s or 2000s. We either push forward and do so with speed or we fall sleep again and repeat the cycle of drifting back into fascism.
